Wheeler School Public Art Initiative

(run time 23:28) This video documents an initiative begun in 2007 by The Wheeler School in Providence, RI to install public art installations around its campus. This was made possible by local art supporter Joseph A. Chazan, M.D. in memory of his wife Helene S. Chazan. Nine artists were commissioned to create unique works which have become an integral part of not only the educational experience at Wheeler, but also a wonderful example of how art can effect an entire community.

Temple Beth-El Religious School Dedication

(run time 10:21) The artist Tracy Mahaffey was commissioned to create a public art piece at Temple Beth-El in Providence, Rhode Island, in honor of the dedication of the Leslie Yale Gutterman Religious School. This video shows the processes involved in the inception and creation of this unique piece of public sculpture.

Recasting the Loving Cup: From Traditional Silver to Contemporary Media

(run time 27:02) Ten artists were commissioned to create a 3 handled loving cup in the media of their own choosing. The results were exhibited as part of an exhibition at The Newport Art Museum, Newport, RI. The artists were: Howard Ben Tré, Peter Prip, Ben Anderson, Kenn Speiser, Jonathan Bonner, James Watkins, Michael Glancy, Steven Easton, James Reynolds and Timothy Philbrick. Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design Campuses

Artwork abounds on the campuses of Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design. Gallery director Jo-Ann Conklin takes a walk around College Hill to highlight some of these pieces. From outdoor sculptures by the internationally prominent Henry Moore and Jenny Holzer to challenging indoor installations by visual artists Sarah Oppenheimer and Diane Samuels, Conklin describes the intriguing features of these works and invites viewers to enjoy them on the campuses.
